"Iran shoots down U.S. spy drone amid growing military pressure"
Sorry for the "Breaking" headline, and I hope no one else has blogged this. (I'll check after I post.) Now I don't want to sound paranoid, but these parallels to Vietnam are getting a little eerie. Listen to this interesting tidbit:
Lieberman's staffers to resign in protest
Wed Aug 09, 2006 at 12:23:55 PM PDT
I always Joe's campaign was destined to succeed, but then I realized that's really stupid because Joe Lieberman sucks. Over the past few weeks, you might have heard a
variation of the meme that Lieberman would "shake-up" his staff in the event of a primary loss.
Expect Lieberman to can anyone who was associated with 2004 Kerry campaign and replace them with a team of pungent veterans who will take the fight to Lamont. As Lieberman tours the broiling state, you can almost hear the gloves coming off in preparation for a fight to the finish in November.
In fact, I can hear the gloves coming off. Coming off to slap Joe Lieberman in the face! Joe's not shaking up his staff- he's spinning their upcoming resignations.
Via The Carpetbagger Report:
Two independent sources have confirmed that some Lieberman aides decided well in advance of yesterday's primary that if the senator abandoned the Democratic Party for an independent campaign, they would resign in protest. Given yesterday's results and Lieberman's announcement, that's exactly what's about to happen.
Explosive new GQ article about Ralph Reed/New Poll
Thu Jul 13, 2006 at 09:34:00 AM PDT
As many of you know, Ralph Reed is an asshole. He is also running for Lt. Governor in Georgia against Democrat Casey Cagle. A new Insider Advantage tracking poll shows Cagle
leading Christian right golden boy Reed by 5 percentage points, 41% to 36%. As if Reed's candidacy wasn;t going so well in the first place, a new GQ article sums up all of Reed's sketchy dealings with fake Christians, crooks, thieves, and pedophiles. Really, pedophiles.

Give us the Replies Box, Dammit! {Poll}
Tue Dec 21, 2004 at 08:12:01 PM PDT
Inspired by DelawareDem's diary about the downfall of Daily Kos, I did a bit of soul searching myself. Why isn't dKos as interesting, as informative, and as intellectually stimulating as before? As Dan Quayle said, 'One word: the Replies Box.'
For those recent additions to the Kossack community, the Replies Box used to be a part of the Hotlist box. Kos took it away before the election to prevent the servers from blowing up, but he never put it back.
Whenever a Kossack would reply to your comment, you would be notified. Once a reply was viewed, it would vanish from the replies box. This way, Kossacks from across the country could carry on conversations hours, even days after the thread has been abandoned. People could debate or converse about whatever they wanted. It was wonderful.
WizBang jerks call revote after DailyKos takes lead [Poll]
Sat Dec 04, 2004 at 11:50:52 PM PDT
After a diary was posted about Instapundit
kicking our ass in WizBang's online poll of the
Best Blogs, Kossacks started voting in the poll, eventually overtaking Instapundit to become the leader for 'best overall blog.' Unfortunately, the WizBang jerks have decided to reset DailyKos's vote total, citing a
comment showing people how to make bots to freep the poll, a tactic regularly used by Freepers and other scary conservative scum.
Secession
Tue Nov 02, 2004 at 10:18:52 PM PDT
I'm not joking. If anyone wants to start a movement, I'll gladly join. And a few of my friends will too.
We could call ourselves "The United States" and leave the old part with the "America" moniker since rednecks don't ever call it anything else. We could adopt the Constitution, with some minor adjustments, and set out to live in the country our forefathers intended to make. All the intellectual capital would be in the new nation and the old "America" would descend into the deepest depths of economic recession and mass chaos. Before long, they'd be coming back begging to reunite, at which point we would accept on the conditions that they abide by the Constitution and don't cross the line between Church and state.
Of course, people would need to plan it out a little better than myself and come up with some better ideas.
HOW F***ING INCOMPETENT ARE WE?
Tue Nov 02, 2004 at 09:40:16 PM PDT
Disregard this if John Kerry miraculously pulls it out in Ohio. Otherwise:
How can we lose to such a dumb asshole?
If we can't beat George W. Bush, who can we beat? John McCain in '08? Bill Frist in '12? I don't think so!
Throw out McAuliffe. Fire Shrum. We need to remake the Democratic party. We need a revolution. We need to be more aggressive, stronger, and more LIBERAL.
We need Howard Dean.
And yeah, I'm angry. I'm angry as hell.
[editor's note, by Smedley Hirkum] We could always secede. All the blue states become one prosperous, tolerant nation while the redneck states bring back Puritanism and the Inquisition and continue on their path to doom.
Somebody convince me we're going to win
Tue Nov 02, 2004 at 07:05:23 PM PDT
52%B 47%K in FL with
73% reporting.
52%B 48%K in OH, with 20% reporting.
I'm a bit nervous. AP reports that the young people didn't come out and vote. Are we going to win? If these #s hold, Kerry would have to win CO and NM or Missouri along with WI, MN, and IA. If Kerry only gets MN, WI, IA, and NM, we have an electoral tie. And that sucks. Someone please reassure me!
New ABC News Poll
Wed Oct 06, 2004 at 06:55:52 PM PDT
New ABC News
poll shows good things for Kerry.
49% Bush | 47% Kerry | 1% Nader
TUESDAY POLL was 51% | 45% | 1%
Looks like the VP debate may have done us some good after all. Actually, the poll seems to have been taken in part before the debate. So never mind about that.
Let's not kid ourselves, Edwards will LOSE. [Poll]
Mon Oct 04, 2004 at 09:48:37 PM PDT
I'm sorry, but anyone who thinks that John Edwards can win this debate is a psycho-nut-case. Dick Cheney is possibly the most experienced man ever to debate on national TV ever. Edwards simply doesn't have the foreign policy cred to match.
In addition, Cheney's overwhelming yet subtle charisma will completely overpower Edwards' un-charismatic dull persona. Edwards' boyish charm will be no match for Cheney's undeniable manliness. The female vote will break strongly for the VP due to his massive muscles concealed only by his expensive and classy suits.
Okay, we're 10 points behind now.
Mon Sep 27, 2004 at 08:48:28 PM PDT
Or 7. A new
Washington Post/ABC News poll shows Kerry down by 7 points with RVs, but only trails by 6 with likely voters, which is the first time I've seen Kerry do better with LVs than RVs.
Before we wait for these polls to be debunked, I think we should just act as though we actually are 10 points down, a concept that was popular on dKos a couple months ago when Kerry was 10 points up. However, now that we're down in the polls, we seem to be devoting all of our energy to reassuring ourselves that John Kerry is actually ahead.
So, what can you do to help save the republic?
No point in emailing Wilgoren [w/ poll]
Sat Sep 25, 2004 at 10:28:40 PM PDT
Here on Daily Kos, hardly a day goes by without a reference to an article written by Jodi Wilgoren and/or Adam Nagourney. And hardly a day goes by without someone posting the email addresses of these two reporters.
Well, it turns out that the New York Times has a special position that is supposed to deal with the newspaper's coverage. He's Daniel Okrent,
the Public Editor, and you should probably be sending emails to him.
His email address is: public@nytimes.com
If one more person says "Rathergate" I'm going to chop off my fingers
Tue Sep 21, 2004 at 10:19:52 PM PDT
The Watergate was the name of a hotel. That Nixon scandal was not about water. The -gate suffix was, unfortunately, born there.
Let's not imitate slanderous Republicans who think they're clever when they talk about "Filegate" and "Troopergate" and "Travelgate." Because no real self-respecting gate was actually involved in these "scandals."
Its just slander and libel. Gates have served a wonderful purpose in our democracy and in the world in general. And they're on our side.
BREAKING: Bush wants only 2 debates! [UPDATED]
Tue Sep 07, 2004 at 06:58:11 PM PDT
So says the Drudge Report, which I despise beyond expression. Instead of linking to the slimeball, I'll just plagiarize his extended headline on the front page:
"President Bush may skip one of the three debates that have been proposed by the Commission on Presidential Debates... MORE... Bush's negotiating team plans to resist the middle debate, which was to be Oct. 8 in a town meeting format in Missouri // audience of 'undecided voters' for second debate was to be picked by Gallup. Bush officials were concerned that people could pose as undecided when they actually are partisans, WASH POST planning to report in new editions, newsroom sources tell DRUDGE... Developing... "
SO SUE ME, ASSHOLE.
[editor's note, by Smedley Hirkum] Here's the [WaPo story http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A3586-2004Sep7.html] (Why isn't this link working???). I beat you Drudge, you slimy-no-good bottom-feeding monstrosity!
Zell Miller: GOP Keynote speaker
Thu Aug 19, 2004 at 11:37:46 AM PDT
What can I say? We've got Obama, they've got... Zell Miller.
I think you can put this under the "Karl Rove actually isn't a genius" category. Who better to provide a vision for the future for the GOP? (sarcasm) I've seen Zell on TV, and he seems probably as charismatic as a doorknob, and about as smart as one too.

Proving JamesB3 wrong: Are you going to the RNC protests? {poll}
Wed Aug 11, 2004 at 01:39:22 PM PDT
The entire purpose of this diary is to prove JamesB3 wrong. James is a pessimist.
Don't worry, there's no reason to post a comment saying, "Smedley, you're an asshole" because I know I'm being one already.
Question is, are you going to the protests, and are you from new york? Remember James, New Yorkers will probably turn out in greater numbers than liberal bloggers because New Yorkers don't have to travel 3000 miles to get to the RNC.
Rodney Alexander: Asshole of Gigantic Proportions {poll}
Tue Aug 10, 2004 at 10:15:45 PM PDT
Via CNN, we learn of the latest regarding our favorite congressman from Louisiana. And by favorite, I mean least favorite. Some excerpts:
Party leaders and officials have called him a "traitor," "confused" and a "coward," with the last charge stinging, Alexander said Tuesday.
"It hurt like the dickens," the first-term congressman said. "I wasn't a coward. That took a lot of courage to do that."
.
Yeah Rodney, I'm sure that hurt. I thought it was especially courageous of you considering you switched parties 15 minutes before the filing deadline.
Hotlist/Replies/Stories box? {Poll}
Fri Jul 30, 2004 at 11:18:48 PM PDT
Kos, I know you took out the replies box to save the servers from crashing during the DemCon, but can you possibly put it back now that the convo is over? I don't mean to whine, but its kind of a hassle to hit "Your Comments" and keep track of which replies you have read and which ones you haven't.
